Aaaand we're back!
Posted on March 26 2025,
Hey you! Welcome, or welcome back. Either way, you'll notice there've been a great many changes around the Cellar. March 2025 marked an era of new beginnings for our yarn journey. We left our full-time jobs, started an LLC, and officially moved our business operations to an 1800-square-foot clean slate of space (Eve's basement). Here we'll have access to everything we need to make Stone Cellar Dye Works the friendship-based business we've been dreaming about since we were kids and the full-time gig we've been aiming for since we started Stone Cellar almost two years ago. It's been a long haul figuring out how we could go into business together as two best friends with eclectic and disparate interests, but it all came down to yarn in the summer of 2023. Learn more about that decades-long journey HERE.
We piloted Stone Cellar as an under-the-table, flying-by-the-seat-of-our-pants, bootstrapping concept through the creation of our 70s collection.
If you've seen us around at the PA Endless Mountains Fiber Festival or the Pennsylvania Fiber Arts Festival you know this collection features a lot of tonals. What a hilarious choice for a starting point, as we would learn. Always jumping in feet first and never shying away from a challenge, Eve began dyeing for the very first time and Tori revisited dyeing for the first time since college. Through the precise replication of colors of the era, with few tools and less know-how, but with oodles of can-do spirit, we took to the task. We faced a lot of trial and error. And error. And high school math. And did we mention error? But wasn't it all about the love for the craft and community we found along the way? Truthfully, we learned a lot while having a blast, and we knew something special had formed, especially once we started meeting fellow yarn enthusiasts at our various events.
Try as we might, due to our demanding full-time jobs, we couldn't get back to the basement to dabble in our newly-formed passion, plus we knew we could only push the historic cellar's septic system so far. So we made the jump, and here we are: Stone Cellar Dye Works LLC in our new studio space. As former thespians for over a decade, we know all too well that the show must go on. So, we close the curtain on our recent theatre careers and raise the lights on a new adventure (but don't worry, we don't plan to abandon our flair for drama). Join us as we embark on this new leg of our journey to make Stone Cellar Dye Works a permanent member of the fiber community. Right now you'll find us mostly online, but we do plan to return to PA Endless Mountains Fiber Festival and Pennsylvania Fall Fiber Arts Festival. PLUS we’ve been recently accepted as a vendor at A Woolen Affair, an unaffiliated warm-up event for the New York Sheep and Wool Festival.
We'll keep you posted on new developments and what's happening in our much larger (whee!) dye lab. See you 'round the swift!
We may be self proclaimed hobbits (4'11" and 5'4") but we're grateful for the upgrade in headspace.
