A Woolen Affair 2026 (Rhinebeck Weekend - Part I)

A Woolen Affair 2026 (Rhinebeck Weekend - Part I)

We're back home from THE weekend of all yarn weekends: what fiber folks affectionately refer to as Rhinebeck. Officially titled the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival, this event is one of the biggest wool-focused fairs in the country. Since we live within pretty close driving distance, we've been lucky enough to visit several times as attendees. One volunteer jokingly asked us, "Doesn't someone have to die to get into this thing as a vendor?", and yeah, it's pretty tough to get in these days. Fortunately, several "warm up" events have sprung up in the past several years: Indie Untangled, Cakepalooza, and A Woolen Affair.

We've been thrilled to vend at A Woolen Affair twice now, and the experience is always a whirlwind--but the kind that leaves you feeling overwhelmed with joy and a warm sense of community. Plus, one of our close friends, who houses us, feeds us, and entertains us with her wit and children, is centrally located betwixt the Dutchess County Fairgrounds and The Hutton Brickyards, where A Woolen Affair has been held the past two years.

Didn't make it Upstate? Here are some of our favorite highlights:

  • After we scuttled up the last of our setup items on festival Friday morn, a rotund suburban groundhog skittered at top critter speed across the sidewalk in front of Tori, nearly taking her out at the ankles. We can still hear his toenails pattering along the pavement in our dreams.
  • Our booth was conveniently placed directly across from the bathrooms. As dedicated hydrators, we loved this for us.
  • The food trucks are always on point. We're still talking about (and drooling over--we're hungry as we're writing this) the empanadas and donuts we consumed in stolen moments between conversations with customers.
  • Overheard in the booth: "Hildegard!? That's my girl!!" Need we say more?
  • While breaking down and packing up, Eve closed our folding table on an undisclosed part of her body which made us cry with pain and laughter.

So post-Rhinebeck weekend, we're positively brimming with glee. We love meeting new people, talking up our latest collection schemes, and visiting with our friends. We snapped some artsy shots with our Camp Snap digital cameras (#NotSponsoredButDamnWeWish).

Shoutout to Tori's mom, whose recently retired hands and clutch sewing skills elevated our Medieval tent to the next level.

Booth 80! Our yarn home for a couple of days.

On the hook! Our 17-color Medieval collection, plus a surprise show color.

Overcast, but contributing to the vibe.

Gloomy outside, but absolutely BUMPIN' inside.

Feeling some FOMO? Check out Part II to see what we got up to at the Sheep and Wool Festival. --->
